Come See The BenchMark

By internkatie22

Hi Guys,

I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me.  That’s because I’ve been crazy busy working on Rick Robert’s play The BenchMark, which will be back for eight performances this winter with all of the proceeds benefiting The Chicago Temple and The Center for Religious Architecture.

It is a play in three acts unfolding over summer, autumn and winter, The Benchmark portrays the life of a homeless man, Mark, whose primary residence is a park bench. Although lacking in formal education, Mark is a voracious reader, having made almost daily pilgrimages to the public library before he was banned from it. He relates his observations on the world around him and his life experiences, while seeking refuge from their pain in liquor. He discovers too late that the social validation he finds in his readings is not enough to ensure his own survival. An elegy of sorts, to the misfit in each of us.

This play was first performed at Holy Name Cathedral Parish Auditorium in August of 2004, with all of the proceeds befitting Central City Housing Ventures. It opened to rave reviews and was even broadcasted on WLS-Ch. 7’s “Chicagoing” and featured in The Chicago Tribune.

Vignettes of the play were performed in 2007 during Looptopia at The Chicago Temple.

We are fortunate to once again have the very talented Jonathan L. Thomas of Chicago’s Simple Theatre company back as our director and the wonderful and vivacious Kelly Molchan as our producer.

Tickets are $25 Underwriter (priority seating); $20 General Admission.

Performances are at Pierce Hall at The Historic Chicago Temple Building, 77 West Washington Street, Lower Level, Chicago, IL 60602
